Ischemic Heart Disease

Ischemic heart disease is when fatty deposits invade the linings of the blood vessels of the coronary artery. These fatty deposits build up slowly, over time, in the walls of the arteries. Unfortunately, the coronary arteries encircle the heart and are responsible for supplying it with blood. In short, the fatty deposits choke off the blood supply to the heart which can cause major health issues. If you have a family history of heart disease then you may want to look into your risk factor for ischemic heart disease. Often times, the people who are at the highest risk for getting the condition have had someone in their family before them who was affected by the disease. The important thing is to get with a doctor if you have any symptoms in order to get checked out. The earlier you can identify the condition, the better chance you will have of continuing on with a normal lifestyle.

The fatty deposits on the blood vessels will cause the arteries to narrow and harden. This narrowing is what keeps blood from reaching the heart at a quick enough pace. Because of the inability of the arteries to supply the heart with the required blood, the heart will become weak and scarred. This will cause further damage with the end result being a possible heart attack. Though the exact cause of ischemic heart disease is unknown, there is a number of risk factors that can contribute to the condition. In general, if you can control these risk factors you can control the likelihood that you will have ischemic heart disease. One of the biggest risk factors involved with ischemic heart disease is your weight and your diet. If you eat poor foods it is likely that you have high cholesterol. The cholesterol can contribute to the fatty deposits that build up on the artery walls and cause them to narrow. If you dedicate yourself to being thin, fit and in shape then you are greatly reducing your chance of getting ischemic heart disease. If however, you follow these bad habits for years on end the chances of getting the syndrome drastically increase.

Ischemic heart disease can be prevented if you understand what the risk factors are. Furthermore, if you understand the risk factors and do everything you can to ensure that your risk is low then you will be able to avoid the condition all together. By waiting too long to change your lifestyle you can be putting yourself in danger of getting ischemic heart disease when it is at an advanced stage.
